What is BookThief.com?

Bookthief.com was created to help college students save money by giving them a common Web site to list and buy used textbooks on their campus! Bookthief.com is a national Web site but is designed to put students in touch with students locally! We want to make you feel like you're a bookthief' for buying and selling on your own without the use of the bookstore. We provide a local alternative to the campus bookstore who gives you little money back on your original textbook purchase. And, you can buy used textbooks for less than the bookstore sells them directly from other students on your campus! No need to pay for shipping.

You can also list and buy dorm & apartment Items, notify others of sub-leasing & leasing opportunities and find out about parties & social events.

After I've found a book, how do I get it?

Once you find the textbook you're looking for, call or email the student based on the information they provide in their listing. You can then proceed to arrange to meet the person, pay them, and get your textbook! The concept is to facilitate buying/selling amongst students of either the same university or universities in close proximity to one another. Remember, when meeting someone you don't know, use precautions meet in well-lit public places, bring a friend along!

I don't have cash, can I pay for the book using my credit card?

Sure, you can use Paypal, a company who turns your credit card purchase into cash for the person you're paying. This well-known company is also used by eBay. If you're not a member follow this link. Paypal is a nationally known company and your financial information will be confidential, safe, and secure. The person you're buying from has to be a Paypal member in order to receive payment so make sure you talk about this with the seller. You will pay the seller, and then arrange to meet the seller of the textbook on campus to get your book!

Does Bookthief.com charge a fee when I buy something?

No. Bookthief.com is absolutely free for all buyers. Browse the listings as much as you want!

Can I trade my textbook for another textbook?

Sure, instead of taking cash, indicate you want to trade the textbook that you have when you list it.

Aside from buying & selling textbooks, what other features does Bookthief.com have?

Bookthief.com also provides the means to buy and sell other items that college students commonly use such as dorm & apartment furniture (couches, lofts, carpet, electronics), appliances (microwaves or refrigerators), subleasing & leasing availability (need a room-mate for next semester?), and parties and social events (local parties, Greek parties, student-activity sponsored events, or anything else happening in your campus town).

What if an item I'd like to post does not have its own category or sub-category?

Should you feel there is an item that deserves a category or sub-category of its own, please feel free to let us know via the "Contact Us" link.

How do I add a School, Country, Providence , etc. that is not yet listed?

Simply visit the "Contact Us" section and type the name of the country that you would like added. We will then update the list accordingly.

Will my email address be sold to outside organizations or junk mailing lists?

Absolutely not. Your privacy is very important to us. We do not sell or rent your personal information to any third parties for their marketing purposes. Your contact information will not be made public. Only your first name, email address and optional phone number will be displayed

How long is each listing good for?

Each listing will remain for 45 days. Please log in to the "my account" section and update your account to reflect that an item has been sold.

What if my school is not listed here?

If you wish to add your school to our directory, contact sales(at)bookthief.com.

Do I have to be a student to use this website?

No. Anyone with a valid e-mail address can use our website.

How do I report a problem or make a suggestion?

If you encounter a technical problem, please contact us at tech(at)bookthief.com. We are also open to all suggestions and will be happy to hear your thoughts.

How do I change my personal information or make changes to my listings?

Simply log in. You can easily ad or remove a listing, or modify an existing one. You can also make changes to your personal information. We strongly recommend that you update your e-mail address in case of a change.
